Volunteers spent the day in the warm sun farming several hundred acres of strawberries, onions, and garlic. We learned all sorts of fun facts about sustainable farming and eating habits while getting to know the farmers and high school student leaders that drive the work of the food project during the summer program season.

I never personally knew Ty during our time at Northwestern University together. But what I do know about him I have learned through his beloved friends and the incredible experiences of CommuniTyler. At The Boston Rescue Mission and The Food Project, I have been overwhelmed by the sense of warmth, kindness, and giving that flows from each of the volunteers. Each time I find myself reflecting on how important it is to slow down and truly appreciate the world and people around me – just as Ty did every day of his life. The memories and friends I have made through CommuniTyler are precious to me not only because of their compassionate beginnings, but because with each new friend and memory I make, the better acquainted I become with Ty. He undoubtedly continues to live within the selfless actions and hearts of this organization’s volunteers and mission. ”
